If your tank is ageing, your property use is changing or you are planning building work, the first step is to understand the current drainage arrangements. We discuss the tank, pipework, discharge route and access before proposing replacement work.
A replacement tank alone may not resolve a problem elsewhere in the drainage system. The wider installation needs to be considered.

Septic tank or treatment plant?
A septic tank provides initial treatment and requires a suitable drainage field. A sewage treatment plant provides additional treatment. The discharge route, soil conditions and site requirements help determine which option is appropriate.
A septic tank must not discharge directly to a watercourse. Existing arrangements of that kind need to be reviewed.

Can you work with an existing drainage field?
We need to consider its condition, layout and suitability. Reuse cannot be assumed simply because a field is already present.
